Actually @dscanlon I’d say that’s a really bad strategy! If you’re small, be small & be proud. CO’s & people are experts at sniffing out BS!

RT @venturehacks: Larry and Sergey had a product and traction _before_ they got their first check from an angel.
Dang, I’m putting more work into a 5-min ignite presentation than a 20-min talk! Luckily 5-mins is just enough to talk about our TTO woes!
Recently redid the 20/10 test & finally answered YES! If you had $20mil or 10 yrs to live, would you still be doing what you are doing now?

Emergence Part II: The Organisation
Here is a quick time-series video I put together following the CNGL Fall Scientific Meeting last week. Please excuse my flair for the dramatic and poor production value; I cobbled it together quickly over the weekend.
The overall idea was to shrink the psychological distance between upper management and our PhDs & Post-docs working on the ground; all while coming up with a few great...

TTaaES or TTO 2.0
On Thursday I gave this presentation at the CNGL Fall Scientific Meeting. The thrust of the presentation is based upon the idea of TTaaES (Technology Transfer as an Enabling Service)…have no idea how to pronounce that so maybe I’ll just stick to TTO 2.0, which has a bit of a ring to it.
So what is TTO 2.0? In short TTO 1.0 is static & linear, while TTO 2.0 is dynamic,...
It’s amazing when you have lucid periods & just know that life is so freakin’ awesome! Think I may have been @TONYRobbins in a former life!
The CNGL after-party was awesome! Should have known I was too old for ‘Galway Hookers’ but those Irish are so damn persuasive!

Like Shit, Emergence Happens...

I was down in Bray a few weeks ago, taking the kids to the Sealife Aquarium (we’re a family of fish geeks!) Anyway they had a little video game arcade in the building with a ‘fun photo’ kiosk that printed out these neat little stickers (€2/sheet)....
Goodluck to the five IBM #SmartCamp finalists…some cool technologies in Ireland’s development pipeline!
Am feeling so proud…today the CNGL CSET director used the word ‘alignment’ in a sentence…and NOT in the translation context!!!
UGGHHHH!!!! Microsoft is not a friend today, just lost over 7 hours of work in Excel to a corrupted file.
What kind of country do I live in…can’t find a petrol station or McDonalds open @ 0630 for a cup of coffee!

Google Translator Gadget
Wanted to post a quick follow-up to my entry regarding Facebooks translation tool. We all know that Google is big into language, but with the launch of their Website Translator Gadget they are taking another step into what is becoming a hot area.

It was pointed out to me by Stephen Curran that this one works a bit...
Very productive tribalX meeting today! Getting ready for our #SmartCamp pitch. There might be a business here after all!

Creative Destruction in the Localisation Industry
Schumpeter’s theory of creative destruction is kind of like evolution…it is amazingly difficult to directly observe during the process, but the aftereffects are impossible to ignore (if you believe in science!) So yesterday I got all excited when a little bit of creative destruction reared its little evolutionary head in the localisation industry.
By way of introduction, first lets...
