Google the Benevolent…

Looks like Google has run into some trouble with the folks @ Viacom. Having to disclose IP addresses is bad enough, but it can only get worse. With so much information consolidated in the hands of so few people, it only takes one slip-up, disgruntled employee, court order or burglary to expose quite intimate details about users. Increasing aggregation can allow Google to assemble quite detailed psychographic profiles of its users, generating data that would have marketers salivating. With so much at stake it could take one small incident to generate a chain reaction capable of destroying the House of Google, which is built upon a fragile foundation of trust.
