America, Obama & the Summit of Americas…
Just caught the text of Obama’s speech at the Summit of the America’s and feel a kind of American pride that I haven’t felt in a very long time. I never understood what my older relatives were talking about when they spoke of J.F.K….the inspiration he elicited as well as the profound loss after his assination…but today that has changed. Obama is from a rare breed of leaders, capable of transformation in the darkest of circumstances.
Sure there will be people like Michael Hayden & Dick Cheney who claim that America is less safe now than it was under the Bush Doctrine, but these criticisms come from the same people whose actions fanned the flames of fanaticism in the process engendering a whole generation of extremists. Barrack Obama is eroding the very foundations of religious extremists by ushering in a new era of policy where honesty, openness & transparency trump closed-door unilateralism. Naturally there will be people who criticise his methods and complain about mundane issues (hello tea partier’s) but for those people I cannot help but feel sorry for them.
Except of Opening & Closing comments…
